How to choose good Shamisen?
Point 1）The beautiful curved surface of the side of shamisen body and the clear pattern of wood-grain of it are important proof of good Shamisen. These features can be created by only truly skilled craftsmen.
Point 2) The harder the neck of the shamisen is, the more beautiful its sound would be. The standard wood used for shamisen necks such as rosewood and Chinese quince is hard enough, but red sanders is the hardest and highest quality of wood for shamisen necks. Especially, the shamisen that has cloud-like patterns which is called "Tochi" -this is proof that the wood is very hard- on its neck is the top-quality shamisen.
