Shamisen needs to be change its strings to play different types of music (Nagauta, Jiuta etc). The numbers on this chart are the names of each type of string (the sound of the string gets lower as the number of names gets bigger).

Material of Shamisen Strings
Silk: Make clear and beautiful sound, but fragile. Also, this string dose not damage the neck of shamisen due to friction.
Tetron: Strong and durable string, but sometime damage the neck of shamisen due to friction.
